High-Risk Offenders - The Hidden Peril of Drink Driving

Contrary to popular belief, there is no 'right' to hold a driving licence, merely by having passed a driving test, and not otherwise being disqualified. The Secretary of State for Transport has the right, where the circumstances justify it, to withhold a licence. One of the circumstances where this arises is after a drink drive conviction if the offender is deemed 'high-risk'.

Her commitment to the cause of access to justice earned her a profile in the Liverpool Echo examining how ‘a 38-year-old from Merseyside came to be the voice of a nationwide battle’ against the Ministry of Justice.

This year's ceremony, which attracted more than 300 members of the legal profession, sponsors and guests, took place at the Rum Warehouse on Stanley Dock in north Liverpool on Friday (12 May 2017).
Excellence Awards – shortlist published

The Law Society has today published the shortlist for its tenth annual Excellence Awards, which will honour the ‘brightest and best’ in the solicitor profession at a ceremony later this year.
Individual solicitors are competing in categories that include Gazette Legal Personality of the Year, Junior Lawyer of the Year and Solicitor-Advocate of the Year.
Defence solicitors to lead digital case development

Defence solicitors will have a lead role in the development of a new digital case management system, the Legal Aid Agency has promised, announcing that Liverpool is to pilot the Criminal Justice System Common Platform Programme.
The £30m platform is a joint initiative of HM Courts & Tribunals Service, the Crown Prosecution Service and judiciary to create a ‘unified’ system to help digital working for practitioners, from the investigation of cases through to the sentencing and rehabilitation of offenders.
